A Critical Study Of Literary Translation: An Analysis Of The Term And Concept

Authors : Slimani Hafida .

Abstract

This study explores the crucial role of translation in contemporary literary criticism, emphasizing the cultural and linguistic challenges that accompany the transference of artistic meaning. It investigates how translators navigate the tension between fidelity to the source text and creative adaptation required by the target audience. The research adopts a comparative and interpretive approach, examining representative literary works translated across diverse linguistic and cultural contexts. Findings reveal that effective literary translation depends on the translator’s dual expertise in linguistic precision and cultural interpretation. The study underscores that translation is not a mere linguistic operation but a creative act that reconstructs meaning across boundaries. By highlighting translation as an aesthetic and analytical practice, the paper contributes to the field of translation studies by redefining the translator’s role as both mediator and co-creator, opening new perspectives on the interrelation between literature, culture, and interpretation.
