Recent AI advances have transformed self-directed English learning, reflecting sociolinguistic shifts in language acquisition. AI offers personalized paths, instant error correction, and skill assessment, creating new virtual spaces for language and social interaction. However, reduced face-to-face communication challenges the development of communicative and sociolinguistic skills. This study analyzes these impacts on learners and the language community. It also examines how AI accelerates learning and proposes ways to balance technology benefits with preserving human interaction.
