Pathological culture is introduced as a concept that highlights how certain toxic aspects of culture can predispose individuals to psychological vulnerability. This framework suggests that cultural environments imbued with negative schemas, maladaptive behaviors, and harmful narratives can significantly impair psychological resilience. The historical and cultural heritage of a community plays a critical role in shaping these resilience strategies, often perpetuating patterns that either support or undermine mental health. This article aims to develop a new theoretical model that explains how pathological cultures emerge and how they contribute to psychological decline. By examining the interaction between toxic cultural elements and individual psychological processes, this model provides a comprehensive understanding of how cultural contexts can exacerbate or mitigate mental health challenges. The proposed framework offers new insights into the ways cultural history influences resilience and mental health, ultimately suggesting pathways for intervention and cultural change.
