Palestine In Egyptian Educational Consciousness After October 7: Between Awakening And Official Stagnation

Authors : Hassan Marwan .

Abstract

This research explores the attitudes of university students in Egypt toward resistance, solidarity with the Palestinian cause, and everyday boycott practices, viewing the university as a space for political and intellectual struggle. The study involved 48 education students from various Egyptian universities, using semi-structured Zoom interviews for data collection. Findings reveal that students face restrictions on political expression within the university, where unwritten boundaries define what is permitted or prohibited. Despite this, some students find indirect ways to navigate these limits—through boycotts or symbolic cultural activities. They engage in daily forms of symbolic resistance that reflect their opposition to political and cultural dominance, even amid social and economic pressures. The study concludes that the university is a site of ideological conflict, where students respond to constraints through diverse and creative means, demonstrating their political awareness and engagement.
