Abstract

This study explores English-language needs for digital entrepreneurship among Algerian university students through a multidimensional English for Digital Entrepreneurship (EDE) needs analysis framework. Using a bilingual questionnaire completed by 361 non-English-major students, the study examines target needs, self-reported current proficiency, self-efficacy, learning preferences, and contextual constraints across key EDE tasks, including pitching, negotiation, investor communication, and LinkedIn interaction. The results reveal considerable self-reported proficiency gaps between what students are expected to do and how prepared they feel, particularly in oral pitching and negotiation (composite gap: d = 1.51), with self-efficacy varying noticeably across tasks. Students showed a clear preference for practical, technology-supported learning, especially mobile-friendly formats. However, regarding obstacles, time constraints and financial cost were the most frequently reported, while internet access was the least cited barrier. The study contributes a psychological and technological dimension to ESP needs analysis and provides a practical basis for EDE course design in Algerian higher education and similar non-Anglophone contexts.
