This research paper investigates the relationship between money supply and economic growth in Algeria from 1980 to 2022, using GDP growth as the primary indicator of economic growth. It examines both modern and traditional theories of economic growth and applies the VAR (Vector Autoregression) model to analyze internal variables and time lags for more accurate insights. The results show that sudden changes in the money supply can have adverse effects on economic growth. Specifically, a 1% increase in GDP growth impacts the money supply by 0.17 after one period and 0.43 in the preceding period. GDP growth is influenced by its own past values (0.13) and the money supply (0.38) in previous periods, with a constant effect of 1.50 when the money supply increases by one unit.
