The incorporation of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) within English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) frameworks is increasingly crucial for enhancing academic proficiency in Algerian higher education. While EMI plays a significant role in fostering global competitiveness, its success relies not only on English proficiency but also on the effective inclusion of ESP, which specifically addresses the language needs of various disciplines. Therefore, this article explores how ESP can be strategically embedded within EMI contexts to improve students' academic performance across diverse subject areas. Specifically, it highlights strategies for aligning ESP with disciplinary content, ensuring that students develop both language competencies and subject-specific knowledge. Moreover, the study identifies key challenges faced by both faculty and students, such as inadequate resources and insufficient language support. In response, the article proposes targeted solutions, including structured professional development programs for educators aimed at enhancing their teaching capabilities within the EMI framework. Additionally, it suggests comprehensive support mechanisms for learners to address their language-related needs effectively. Furthermore, the article underscores the importance of institutional policies in sustaining successful ESP-EMI inclusion. It advocates for resource allocation, continuous assessment, and collaboration among stakeholders to ensure the long-term effectiveness of these initiatives. By implementing these recommendations, Algerian universities can facilitate a smoother transition to EMI. As a result, students will not only improve their academic proficiency but also enhance their employability in an increasingly globalized academic and professional environment.
