The rapid spread of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education has raised concerns about its capacity to replace human collaboration. Accordingly, this study investigates its role in English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) courses at Algerian universities, asking whether AI can substitute cooperation between subject-matter and language instructors. Through a mixed-methods approach that combined questionnaires, ten semi-structured interviews, and a pilot of AI-assisted lesson planning, the findings indicate that AI is effective for structured tasks such as scaffolding and sequencing; however, it lacks the contextual and pedagogical judgment of teachers. Consequently, participants favored a hybrid model in which AI complements rather than replaces professional collaboration. In conclusion, the study highlights implications for EMI policy, teacher training, and course design.
