Authors : Chettibi Mohammed Walid . Grine Nadia .

Abstract

This article reveals the essence of training the teaching staff in using English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) in 8 Mai 1945 Guelma University during 2022-2023, regarding whether this EMI training was based on English for Specific Purposes (ESP) or General English (GE). By adopting an exploratory approach and quantitative method based on a questionnaire, the research explores trainers' experiences, challenges, and beliefs regarding teaching staff’s training. The findings indicate that the training’s tasks, lessons, syllabus and test were GE-oriented and neglected incorporating ESP knowledge and principles, and that the vocalic and suprasegmental systems were the most erroneous/difficult for the trainees. Thus, the study underscores the necessity of creating EMI trainings consistent with the trainees’ specialties, needs revolving around teaching pronunciation.
