Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is marked by difficulties in social communication and interaction, often linked to atypical sensory processing and motor coordination. Sensory–motor pathways are crucial for translating sensory experiences into meaningful social responses, influencing attention, emotional regulation and non-verbal communication. This article reviews theoretical frameworks, including sensory integration and neurodevelopmental perspectives to explore how sensory input and motor skills support social interaction in children with ASD. Evidence from intervention studies demonstrates that targeted sensory–motor activities can enhance communication and social engagement. Implications for clinical practice and directions for future research are discussed.
