This research investigates the feasibility of intermodal transfer between touch and vision modalities in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and analyzes the impact of the severity of the disorder as well as the level of communication on this process. Conducted in an autism center, our quasi-experimental method relies on a sample of 20 children with ASD, using specific assessments to measure intermodal transfer capabilities and to examine communication variables. The findings indicate that the severity of the autistic disorder does not significantly alter the performances in Touch-Vision (T-V) and Vision-Touch (V-T) transfer tasks. However, receptive and expressive communication skills demonstrate a notable influence, but only in the TV task, suggesting that communication aspects play a crucial role in intermodal transfer among children with ASD.
