Rethinking The Classical Communication Process In The Age Of Artificial Intelligence: Toward An Intelligent Communication Model

Authors : Cheurfa Asma .

Abstract

The evolution of communication theory—from linear models such as Shannon and Weaver’s (1949) and Berlo’s (1960) to interactive digital frameworks—reveals profound shifts in how meaning is produced and shared. In the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI), communication has become algorithmically mediated, data-driven, and participatory, challenging the traditional sender–message–receiver model. This paper reconsiders the classical communication process by proposing an Intelligent Communication Model (ICM) that integrates human and algorithmic agency. The model highlights how AI functions as a co-creator of meaning, transforming feedback, channels, and message construction into adaptive and intelligent forms. By reframing communication as a dynamic interaction between humans and intelligent systems, this study contributes to the emerging epistemology of intelligent communication and calls for renewed theoretical and methodological reflection in the digital era.
