Assessing The Impact Of Renewable Energy On Sustainable Development: An Empirical Analysis Using The Ardl Model With A Focus On Denmark

Authors : Benmostefa Rim . Mesbahi Fatima Zahra .

Abstract

To empirically assess the actual influence of renewable energies on sustainable development, this study utilizes the ARDL model. The analysis examines the short- and long-term relationships between the independent variables RENP, RDE, TRAD, MAV, and GDP—and the dependent variable, HDI, over the period 1990-2023. Focusing on Denmark, a pioneer country in terms of energy transition. The results obtained clearly show the positive effects of renewable energy, research and development expenditure, as well as gross domestic product on the sustainable development index. At the same time, trade and value-added in the manufacturing sector also have positive but insignificant effects. Therefore, public authorities must intervene to increase investments in this area to promote sustainable development.
