From Thesis To Startup: Ai-enhanced Incubator-supported Graduation Projects In Algerian Higher Education

Authors : Belaid Bekhta .

Abstract

Higher education in Algeria has relied on a graduation model based on traditional theses, resulting in academic outputs that are theoretical and archival, with limited practical or socio-economic impact. In this context, Ministerial Decision No. 1275, issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, has approved graduation projects supported by business incubators for bachelor's and master's students.. This article critically assesses the conceptual, theoretical, and policy foundations of this reform, placing it within international frameworks such as Mode 2 knowledge production and the Triple Helix model, which emphasize the importance of context-sensitive and socially responsible knowledge creation. The analysis emphasizes the role of AI-enhanced, incubator-supported initiatives in developing entrepreneurial skills, problem-solving abilities, and socio-economic involvement, while faculty readiness and equitable access. It posits that graduating from incubator support is a strategic method for aligning academic rigor with innovation, facilitating Algeria's transition to a sustainable knowledge-based economy.
