. Abstract: The phenomenon of multilingualism among human beings hinders communication and cultural exchanges between them, As a result, people thought about bridging this gap through translation, which evolved from human translation to machine translation. By trying to automate this process, especially given the increasing cost of human translation and its limitations in the face of the ever-increasing amount of knowledge. The beginnings of machine translation, in its emergence and development, were linked to a philosophical and logical context that started from the conviction that thought and language are two automatic processes carried out by the brain, Therefore, they can be computed. It was also linked to the universal language project, the foundations of which were laid by the German philosopher Leibniz, and the beginnings of thinking about the symbolic mathematical expression of the outputs of thought in a logical, symbolic way that can be calculated. From here, the idea of converting from natural language to symbolic language began. Language computing is done by considering its logical structure, which has become known as encoding and decoding, which is the basic rule in machine translation when converting from one language to another. The problematic: How did philosophy and logic contribute to the foundation of machine translation?
