Green Cities And Their Role In Achieving Sustainable Development: A Case Study Of The Sustainable Masdar City In Abu Dhabi

Abstract
Abstract: This study aims to explore the mechanisms for transitioning to green cities as a key pathway for achieving sustainable development, analyzing the experience of Masdar City in Abu Dhabi as a pioneering model of sustainable urban planning. The research adopts a descriptive-analytical approach to review sustainability standards and evaluate their practical implementation. The findings indicate that the success of green cities relies on the integration of sustainable urban planning (Passive Design) with supportive legislative policies. Masdar City demonstrated a 40% reduction in energy consumption by combining traditional architectural elements with renewable energy technologies and achieved 96% recycling of construction waste. The study recommends adopting national sustainability standards (such as the “Pearl Rating System”) and promoting smart, sustainable transportation to reduce carbon emissions and enhance urban efficiency and resilience, particularly in developing countries
