Abstract

The agricultural sector in the Arab world in general and Algeria in particular suffers from a multitude of risks resulting from its exposure to numerous uncontrollable fluctuating natural variables. This renders the institutionalization of agricultural insurance principles in these countries imperative, given its substantial benefits to both the national economy and the agricultural sector. These benefits include providing necessary stability and support to agricultural investors by mitigating risks and perils facing agricultural production—both crop and livestock alike. Agricultural insurance guarantees compensation for potential losses and distributes risks among various subscribers, thereby ensuring positive guarantees and incentives for farmers to practice their activity and expand their agricultural investments. This constitutes the fundamental step toward achieving self-sufficiency in agricultural products.
