Abstract : The article explores the representation of African minorities in the Hoggar region through the novel Camarade. It highlights the symbolic role of black skin as a central marker of their image in the collective imagination, often associated with marginalization, poverty, and backwardness. The study emphasizes a duality between what remains constant—such as physical traits and submissiveness—and what changes, namely the social transformations brought about by migration and living conditions. The novel also portrays negative practices linked to these minorities, including sorcery, drugs, and prostitution, while underlining a political dimension that connects their suffering to corruption and authoritarian regimes in their homelands. Ultimately, the representation of this group reflects a reproduction of long-standing stereotypes combined with new images shaped by contemporary realities.
