This article examines Les Randonneurs de Batna, a grassroots hiking association in the Aurès region of Algeria, to explore how civic initiatives contribute to alternative tourism, cultural revitalization, and environmental awareness. Through qualitative content analysis and digital ethnography of the group’s Facebook page, the study reveals that the club plays a central role in rediscovering forgotten mountain pathways, promoting community-based tourism, and reinforcing Amazigh cultural identity. Visual storytelling, motivational discourse, and online interactions create a strong sense of belonging and social cohesion among members. The club also cultivates environmental citizenship by promoting responsible hiking practices and organizing clean-up actions. Despite challenges related to limited institutional support and environmental risks, Les Randonneurs de Batna exemplifies how associative movements can reshape tourism dynamics and foster sustainable development in marginalized regions. The findings highlight the growing significance of civic actors in shaping Algeria’s emerging tourism landscape.
