Auteurs : Zekkour Salah . Benarfa Brahim .

The theatrical text represents an innovative phenomenon in Arabic literary creativity, especially within Algerian literature. Emerging as an independent genre without prior tradition, it marks one of the earliest signs of renewal in Arabic literature. Early playwrights sought to emulate Western artistic models, as various Western theatrical schools entered the Arab world rapidly and simultaneously. This swift influx did not allow enough time for the development of mature, uniquely Arab theatrical trends rooted in local society and individual experience. Thus, theatre in the Arab world can be seen as a modern creation, born in and for its contemporary context. This study examines how Western creative tools have been employed in Arab theatrical texts, assessing both their fidelity to original sources and the extent to which they have been adapted to create authentic works that reflect the cultural and social realities of Arab society.
