Gender stereotyping is prevalent in many textbooks, especially EFL textbooks. This study analysed gender portrayal in the English textbook “My Book of English” for primary school year three. It aimed to identify gender stereotypes in this primary-level English textbook. Using both quantitative and qualitative methods, the analysis confirmed the presence of gender bias. The illustrations predominantly feature males, and the depicted occupations for men and women are often traditional and outdated. Men’s activities are frequently shown outdoors, while women’s activities are mostly indoors, reflecting negative gender stereotypes. The study aims to offer teachers and textbook authors with insights into gender representations, encouraging them to recognize and reduce gender bias.
