This article delves into Slaughterhouse-Five as an epitomic postmodern novel through the lens of Vonnegut's declaration of narrative independence which is deeply linked with his investigation of existential estrangement. By disassembling traditional war narratives, Vonnegut is not only able to unearth the inherent linguistics of violent crime but also to nurture a paradoxical ethic of care. Thus, the work achieves the transformation of the concept of absurdism into a new space where the energy of feeling and the desire for ethical activity can exist.
