The Importance Of Teaching Esp Course For Literature Studies

Abstract
The study attempts to explore the importance of introducing English for specific purposes in a course destined for literature studies. A test was conducted targeting 13 Master I and II students of literature and has revealed that most literature students in the department of English at Boumerdes University suffer from weak mastery over the terminology used when analyzing literary texts. This motivated the study to suggest the possible remedies to such an issue. The results of the study are unequivocal and show a real deficiency in the student’s ability to identify or use literary devices in an appropriate way. The study recommends the introduction of a course that introduces the students to literary terminology and empowers them with the capacity to use them in a real-life learning context.
