This paper explores how university students construct their identity in the virtual world compared to the real world, paying special attention to the contradictions, tensions and differences that shape this dual experience. The study adopted a survey-based approach and the collected data were analyzed using the statistical package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21. The findings indicate that Facebook functions as a major virtual space that allows individuals to communicate and from social relationships with a wide range of users, often without using their real identity. As such, interactions on the platform mainly revolve around communication through identities that may be authentic, fabricated or deliberately reconstructed in a virtual form.
