Authors : Doghmane Halla . Alsaidi Humaid .

Abstract

This study examines the complex relationship between media and human rights, viewing them as essential pillars of democratic societies grounded in transparency and accountability. It demonstrates that media play a central role in promoting public awareness of human rights, exposing violations through investigative journalism, and empowering marginalized groups by providing platforms for representation. The study also highlights major ethical challenges in media practice, including bias, stereotyping, privacy violations, and the spread of misinformation in the digital environment. Furthermore, it emphasizes the significance of legal and professional frameworks such as ethics codes and freedom-of-expression laws in guiding responsible reporting. The study concludes that the media's effectiveness in protecting human rights depends on ensuring editorial independence, enhancing journalistic professionalism, strengthening transparency mechanisms, and developing media literacy skills among the public. Thus, media can either advance or undermine human rights depending on their practices and the political and legal context in which they operate.
