This paper aims to explore the documentary research practices as well as its role in the field of translation, a specific focus on specialized texts. It also highlights the cognitive importance of documentary research in translator training and professional practice, and emphasize its contribution to developing non-linguistic competencies, acquiring specialized subject-matter knowledge, and mastering terminology. This study suggests that the integration of systematic documentary research practices into translator training can significantly improve training outcomes at universities. It also enables students to develop a broader general culture and information literacy, strengthen their translational competence, and adapt more effectively to the market demands.
