This study aims to investigate whether the relationship between energy security and economic growth in Algeria is symmetric or asymmetric, exploring whether positive and negative changes in energy security have different impacts on economic growth over the period from 1990 to 2023, utilizing a nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag (NARDL. In Algeria, the results show that energy security has an asymmetric impact on economic growth: positive changes boost growth, while negative changes have a much stronger negative effect. FDI positively affects growth significantly, while reductions have little impact. While, GFCF influences growth both positively and negatively. Regarding, short-term fluctuations in energy security have immediate effects on GDP, with positive changes enhancing growth and negative changes causing sharp declines. As a result, stable energy supplies, robust FDI inflows, and consistent capital investment are crucial for Algeria’s economic stability and growth.
