This study explores the relationship between urban mobility and modal choice for daily commutes, focusing on the role of the car in home-to-work travel within the city of Bejaia. To achieve this objective, a field study was conducted on the commuting modes of RTC-Sonatrach employees in Bejaia. The main findings indicate that the poor quality of public transportation services is a contributing factor to the automobile mobility of the company's employees. Furthermore, although employees expressed a desire to shift towards soft modes of transport as public transportation services improve, the performance of private cars makes this modal shift challenging in this area.
