1986. The principle of free and informed consent of States is an essential basis for the validity of international treaties, as enshrined in the Vienna Conventions on the Law of Treaties. Error is one of the most prominent defects of this consent, as if it is marred by the will of the state when concluding the treaty, it may lead to its possibility of invalidation. The importance of error emerges when a state creates a contractual obligation based on an incorrect perception of a fundamental fact, although its occurrence in practical application remains rare. This research will address the provisions of error in light of the Vienna Conventions of 1969 and 1986.
