Abstract

Abstract: This study seeks to explore the historical dimension of the city of Tlemcen from the Islamic conquest up to the fall of the Zayyanid dynasty. Tlemcen played a significant role in the Islamic Maghreb, serving as a major administrative center for Muslims in the region since the early stages of the Islamic expansion. Under the rule of the Sulaymanid emirate, the city marked a frontier between them and the Aghlabids, who were governors under the Abbasid Caliphate. Following the collapse of the Sulaymanid emirate, Tlemcen became the focus of a prolonged conflict between the Umayyads and Fatimids that lasted for over a century, until it ultimately came under Almoravid control. During this period, Tlemcen maintained its importance as a strategic administrative hub, a role it continued to fulfill under the Almohads. The city also witnessed considerable historical development during the rule of the Zayyanids:
