Classroom Discourse Analysis In Algerian Secondary Education

Authors : Khalili Khadidja .

Abstract

Discourse analysis is an interdisciplinary approach that examines the use of language within written and spoken contexts to construct meaning. The process is critical for understanding and improving the dynamics of teaching and learning in the classroom setting, determining the communication patterns between teachers and students. The present paper explores the importance of classroom discourse analysis in language learning. The study examines how discourse occurs in language learning in the classroom and explores the teacher maintenance of students’ engagement and motivation. In presenting the teachers' perspectives and attitudes according to these foci, a questionnaire survey is delivered to 30 teachers of English across different Algerian secondary schools. It is hypothesised that encouraging students to focus on communication rather than perfection and fostering their autonomy helps teachers better analyse the classroom.
