Globalisation has significantly impacted fields and disciplines, particularly the educational sector. One notable outcome of this global phenomenon is the increased prevalence of English language as a lingua franca, bridging the gap between native and non-native speakers. This proficiency has become vital in thriving and surviving in different domains, particularly for non-English speakers pursuing academic and professional goals. In that vein, teaching English for Specific Purposes (ESP) has emerged to suit the individual’s specific needs. The present study delves into ESP teaching practices in Algerian universities, shedding light on Ahmed Draia University of Adrar. In such an endeavour, seven ESP teachers from different departments, where English is a standalone module, were interviewed. The participants were asked to react and comment on the current ESP practices in Algeria. ESP courses need to incorporate more practical and real-life contexts in Algerian universities to enhance learners’ communication skills and prepare them for future careers. The results obtained from the teachers’ interviews revealed that effective delivery of ESP instruction in Algerian universities necessitates substantial modifications and reforms to enhance the outcomes for teachers and students. Teachers should continually participate in ESP training programs as part of their professional development.
