This study evaluates the industrial sector's performance in oil-dependent countries, focusing on Algeria and Libya, in order to understand the factors influencing industrial competitiveness and the impact of oil dependency on economic activities. The research uses the Competitive Industrial Performance (CIP) Index data from 2010-2021 to analyse various dimensions, indices, and sub-indices using a descriptive analytical approach. Findings indicate that Algeria and Libya's dependence on oil exports has hindered the development of a competitive non-oil industrial sector, confirming the "resource curse" phenomenon. Algeria has shown incremental improvements due to stable political conditions and consistent policies, while Libya faces setbacks due to political instability. Although Algeria shows improvement in medium- and high-tech exports, both countries remain behind the world median in industrial competitiveness.
