This article explores the significance of oral heritage in Maghrebi societies through the interrelated notions of speech, silence, and transmission. It examines the ways in which oral forms, including folktales, songs, proverbs, and life narratives, contribute to the preservation of collective memory and cultural identity. The study further investigates silence as a meaningful cultural practice shaped by social values and norms. Particular attention is given to the mechanisms through which oral heritage is transmitted across generations and adapted to changing contexts. Finally, the article reflects on the challenges posed by globalization and highlights the role of literature in safeguarding oral traditions.
