Especially in light of increasing and deteriorating environmental damage brought on by both deliberate and unintentional human activity, environmental crimes rank among the most grave and developing dangers to national and international societies. This has required the triggering of several preventive and punitive systems to control the egregious and obvious infractions perpetrated by environmental criminals. Given their particular character, legal systems have responded by adopting efficient criminal policies suited to these offenses by strengthening environmental laws with deterrent penalties that significantly help to prevent them—whether by financial penalties or precautionary actions. Given the common infractions damaging the environment and public health, how efficient are these deterrent tools in guaranteeing best environmental protection?
