Authors : Chouchani Abidi Mohammed .

Abstract

Numerous studies have sought to determine effective principles for enhancing the teaching of English as a foreign language by adopting pedagogical measures that improve learners' proficiency and develop their linguistic abilities. The present article investigates the instruments that can strengthen the role of the translation module in improving EFL learners' proficiency. To this end, it adopts a descriptive-analytical approach by identifying and examining the features of the curriculum used in the teaching of the translation module for Third-year English students at El Oued University. To support the curriculum analysis, a field study was conducted using a structured electronic questionnaire administered to a sample of 70 students enrolled in the module. The instrument was designed to explore students' perceptions of the effectiveness of the translation instruction. The findings reveal that the majority of the surveyed students perceived the translation module as beneficial for improving both language proficiency and specialised skills. The study highlights the importance of prioritising comprehension, analysis, and revision in translation teaching and proposes pedagogical adjustments to improve the effectiveness of the module.
