Abstract This study examines the legislative and regulatory framework governing artificial intelligence technologies in criminal law through a critical comparative approach, surveying international and regional legislative experiences and their future prospects. It addresses issues of criminal liability for autonomous AI systems, the inadequacy of traditional criminal statutes to deal with AI-assisted offences, and challenges in digital forensic evidence. A dedicated section maps the applied reality of these technologies within criminal justice systems, analyses future challenges, and explores legislative development prospects. The study concludes that the widening gap between technological reality and existing legal frameworks threatens the principles of criminal justice, necessitating specialised legislation aligned with international human rights standards.
