Authors : Benguettat Khadidja .

Abstract

The world today faces growing challenges in protecting the right to privacy due to the rapid development of artificial intelligence technologies and their extensive use of personal data. This article aims to examine the international legal framework governing the protection of this right in the digital environment by analyzing its recognition within global conventions and reviewing the main human rights standards regulating digital privacy under international human rights law. This research paper also explores the multiple international efforts undertaken by the United Nations and specialized organizations such as UNESCO and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to strengthen legal and ethical protections in response to the risks posed by artificial intelligence. Particular attention is given to recent initiatives such as the Shanghai Declaration, the Seoul Declaration, and the Council of Europe’s Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence, Human Rights, Democracy, and the Rule of Law. The study concludes that protecting privacy in the digital age requires a multilevel approach grounded in harmonizing international legal frameworks with modern technological developments and activating mechanisms of international cooperation to ensure the safe and responsible use of artificial intelligence.
