Despite the multiplicity of philosophical and linguistic approaches attempting to understand meaning and determine its mechanisms—from phenomenology, which ties it to consciousness and lived experience, to hermeneutics, which renders it dependent on the historical horizon of understanding, and finally to deconstruction, which denies its stability and transforms it into a chain of differences and deferrals—meaning continues to elude any project that seeks to fix it within a closed epistemological or linguistic model. This raises a central question: How can meaning be approached philosophically in light of the limitations of traditional explanatory models and the conflicting conceptions between one view that considers meaning a mental structure formed in consciousness, another that sees it as the product of the fusion of interpretive horizons, and a third that destabilizes it altogether, viewing it as the outcome of différance and the non-systematic play of language? Through this study, we aim to explore more profoundly the possibility of grasping—or even defining—meaning amid the tension between the desire for explanatory transparency inherited from the Cartesian model, and the modern and contemporary awareness, especially with deconstruction and its architect Jacques Derrida, of the fluidity, multiplicity, and fragmentation of meaning.
