Climate Change Threats To International Peace And Security

Abstract

Climate change is one of the unconventional sources that pose a real threat to international peace and security, in addition to traditional sources such as aggression and armed conflict. The victims of climate change now outnumber the victims of wars and conflicts. Climate change is considered the major challenge of our time and its negative impact on national, regional and global stability. This requires us to explore the international tools available to confront these threats. Therefore, the international mechanism responsible for maintaining international peace and security, represented by the UN Security Council, cannot be ignored by defining its relationship to the security threats resulting from climate change. الواقع أن التغير المناخي هو أحد المصادر غير التقليدية التي تمثل تهديدا حقيقيا للسلم والأمن الدوليين، إضافة إلى المصادر التقليدية والمتمثلة في العدوان والنزاعات المسلحة، فضحايا التغيرات المناخية أضحت تفوق ضحايا الحروب والنزاعات، إذ يعتبر تغير المناخ التحدي الكبير في عصرنا وتأثيره السلبي على الاستقرار الوطني والإقليمي والعالمي، مما يتطلب منا الى البحث في الأدوات الدولية المتاحة لمجابهة هذه التهديدات، لذا لا يمكن تجاهل الآلية الدولية المسؤولة عن الحفاظ على السلم والأمن الدوليين والمتمثلة في مجلس الأمن الدولي من خلال تحديد علاقته بتهديدات الأمنية المترتبة عن تغير المناخ.
