The Blue Economy And Its Efficiency In Enhancing Food Security In Algeria During The Period 2010–2022: The Case Of The Fisheries And Aquaculture Sector

Abstract
This study aims to assess the role of the blue economy in enhancing food security by addressing the concepts related to the blue economy and food security, and by analyzing the efficiency of the fisheries sector as a model of the blue economy in strengthening food security in Algeria. The study concludes that the sector has been inefficient in promoting food security, as it has not achieved productive and allocative efficiency. It failed to bridge a fish consumption gap of 17 kilograms per capita annually and did not utilize more than 40% of the fishing fleet. Furthermore, it has been inefficient in providing affordable fish prices, which increased by 200%, and in creating additional employment opportunities, with its contribution to total employment not exceeding 1.21% of the overall labor force in the economy.
