Abstract This study aims to shed light on various works that highlight the existence of linguistic traces and excerpts attesting to the presence of the Amazigh language in ancient historical sources. Adopting a descriptive and analytical approach, this paper is structured around three main components. The first provides a preliminary overview of the history of the Amazigh language, including selected vocabulary items that illustrate its historical depth. The second focuses on presenting and describing examples of ancient Libyan inscriptions written in Tifinagh, along with recently discovered engravings in the Aurès region. The third offers an inductive examination of selected historical sources, ranging from pre-Christian antiquity to the medieval period, authored by historians and travelers who explored North Africa and documented its inhabitants, customs, and languages. The overarching objective of this research is to demonstrate the presence of linguistic traces of the Amazigh language across different historical sources and periods.
