Illegal migration has seen a marked increase in recent decades, driven by economic, social and political factors, and with the spread of social media, these platforms have come to play a key role in shaping migrants' decisions. This study is based on the theory of cultural implants to explore how digital narratives affect individuals' perceptions of migration. The study examines a historical overview of the development of illegal migration, highlighting the media's role in stimulating this phenomenon. It also identifies the underlying factors affecting migration, including economic challenges, political turmoil and the spread of misinformation promoting irregular migration pathways. Social media platforms such as Facebook, Telegram and WhatsApp provide information about paths and jobs, but at the same time contribute to spreading misleading narratives, depicting migrants' success while concealing real risks such as human trafficking, exploitation and incidents of drowning. Furthermore, smuggling networks use these platforms to attract and coordinate with potential migrants. The study recommends several actions, including strengthening censorship of digital content, launching awareness-raising campaigns targeting groups vulnerable to migration, involving former migrants to transmit their real-life experiences, and supporting local media and influencers to refute misinformation. The study also calls for in-depth research on the relationship between social media and migration decisions, as well as promoting economic development in migrant-exporting countries to reduce the factors driving migration..
