Constitutional Controls On The Power To Dissolve The National People's Assembly In Algeria And Its Impact On The Principle Of Separation Of Powers

Authors : Bouguerne Toufik .

Abstract

One of the basic cornerstones of the contemporary state, the separation of powers seeks to balance the executive and legislative branches so preventing one from dominating the other. Under particular constitutional limits, the Head of State of the Republic in Algeria has the power to dissolve the National People's Assembly (NPA), meant to be used to maintain political stability and renew the parliamentary scene as required. But this authority may be used to increase executive control and diminish Parliament's function in legislation and supervision.
