Victims Of Sexual Violence In The Rome Statute

Authors : Ferhi Rabiaa .

Abstract

The Rome Statute provides a remarkable legal framework for addressing sexual violence as a serious international crime. Sexual violence is explicitly recognized under the Statute, which takes the need for protection and participation in the trial as a priority. hence, Victims of sexual violence are granted the right to testify, participate in proceedings, and receive reparations, ensuring their voices are heard within international justice. Additionally, the Statute mandates the establishment of legal safeguards to protect victims from re-traumatization, including measures for confidentiality and security. Through these provisions, the Rome Statute seeks to hold perpetrators accountable while promoting justice, healing, and the restoration of dignity for survivors of sexual violence.
