Abstract: The central bank undertakes a range of essential functions to uphold the monetary and financial stability of any nation. Among these pivotal roles is the supervision and regulation of banks and financial institutions. Central banks diligently work to mitigate banking risks and avert financial and monetary crises by developing and implementing robust regulatory systems. These systems are designed to ensure that banks and financial institutions operate optimally, particularly in managing the credit process. The Basel Committee Agreement marks a crucial milestone for central banks in standardizing banking supervision norms and establishing minimum capital requirements. This initiative aims to safeguard the integrity and stability of banking systems and enhance their capacity to adapt to ongoing developments and shifts in the global banking landscape. In Algeria, the focus on the role of banking supervision intensified after the enactment of the Money and Credit Law, which led to the creation of a dedicated committee for banking supervision. Following this, the Bank of Algeria issued a series of regulations and directives to delineate the standards and principles of supervision that should be applied to banks and financial institutions, ensuring clarity and consistency in regulatory practices.
