الملخص
التنمية الحضرية الاجتماعية والاقتصادية السليمة، تقوم أولاً وقبل كل شيء على المبدأ الأخلاقي فالمدن يجب أن تخدم الناس الذين يعيشون فيها. بالنسبة لليونسكو، الأولوية الحقيقية هي تحسين الظروف التي يحدث فيها النمو الحضري، بهدف بناء مدن للسلام والديمقراطية والتقدم. يجب أن تضع مدن القرن الحادي والعشرين الفرد في مركز السياسات العامة، وأن تعيد ابتكار مفهوم العمران، وأن تحقق العديد من فرص المشاركة التي يحتويها الحياة الحضرية. إن تأثير العولمة على الأنظمة الحضرية والدور الاستراتيجي للمدن الكبرى في الاقتصاد العالمي يهددان جودة الحياة الحضرية. يجب أن تكون الأولوية هي تحقيق توازن بين احتياجات الأعمال — التي هي ضرورية بالطبع لحياة ونشاط أي مدينة — واحتياجات الفرد. سيسعى النهج الأخلاقي إلى تحقيق توازن أفضل بين الناس، والمدينة، والطبيعة، الذي يضع البيئة في المقام الأول ويشجع سكان المدن على خلق تجربة مشتركة لحياتهم الحضرية، أنسنة» المدينة: ماذا يعني ذلك؟ بناء أو تخطيط مدينة «إنسانية»، «أكثر إنسانية» أو «بحجم إنساني». Healthy social and economic urban development is primarily based on the ethical principle that cities should serve the people living in them. For UNESCO, the real priority is to improve the conditions in which urban growth occurs, with the aim of building cities for peace, democracy, and progress. Cities in the 21st century must place the individual at the center of public policies, reinvent the concept of urbanism, and achieve numerous participation opportunities within urban life. The impact of globalization on urban systems and the strategic role of major cities in the global economy threaten urban quality of life. The priority should be to achieve a balance between business needs—essential, of course, for the life and vitality of any city—and individual needs. An ethical approach will seek to achieve a better balance between people, the city, and nature, placing the environment first and encouraging city dwellers to create a shared experience of their urban life. "Humanizing" the city: What does that mean? Building or planning a "human" city, a "more human" city, or a "human-scale" city.
