Authors : Kourtel Nadjet .

Abstract

The study aims to clarify the negative impact of the increasing rise of Algerian imports on economic growth, the annual increasing rate of imports, and their diversity nature and rising values, has raised the import penetration rate into the economy, this has rendered it trade-exposed and contributed to a decline in the gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate, Using the ARDL model to estimate the causal relationship between the annual growth rates of imports and the annual growth rate of gross domestic product (GDP), the study found a weak impact of imports on the GDP growth rate for the Algerian economy. Notably, 60% of Algerian imports comprise food, non-food consumer goods, and production inputs and intermediate goods, lacking substantial investment goods crucial for reflecting economic productivity and fixed capital accumulation, which only constitutes 40%.
