Algeria, in the midst of a linguistic transition, seeks to strengthen English in its higher education, sparking debates and questions. A survey of 19 teachers reveals a majority anticipating a strengthening of English, possibly at the expense of French. The main motivations: alignment with international research and openness to globalization. Despite a growing student interest in English, challenges persist, notably language proficiency and teacher training. English is seen as an asset for employability and internationalization. Opinions diverge on the relationship between English and French: competition or complementarity? The study highlights the complexity of this transition and its implications for the future of Algerian higher education.
