Technology At The Heart Of Smart Cities: Urban Planning Between Technological Intelligence And Urban Consequences – A Sociological Reading

Authors : Bouden Amima .

Abstract

Abstract: This article examines contemporary urban planning’s widespread adoption of digital technologies and artificial intelligence as tools to enhance administrative efficiency and quality of life in smart cities. However, this form of “technical intelligence” is accompanied by growing debate over its urban implications, particularly regarding privacy and the nature of social life in the city. Drawing on a descriptive approach and a critical sociological analysis, the study argues for the need to move beyond techno-utopian visions that reduce urban intelligence to digital infrastructures at the expense of the city’s social dimensions. It further underscores the importance of integrating technological intelligence with social and urban intelligence in order to place human experience and urban justice at the core of smart city planning
